Supercell Confirms Mo.co Is Not Shutting Down, Major Revamp Coming

Supercell Denies Mo.co Shutdown Rumors, Confirms Major Revamp

Supercell has moved to strongly reassure the player community of its mobile action-RPG, Mo.co, that the game is not facing imminent closure. Following the recent announcement regarding the cancellation of stablemate Squad Busters, concerns arose among Mo.co players about the fate of their monster-hunting title. However, the development team has confirmed that the game is safe and is, in fact, entering a major phase of evolution.

Overhaul Confirmed, Not Cancellation

João Freitas, the community manager for Mo.co, took to social media to address the rumors directly in an FAQ post. He denied reports that the game was at risk of being killed. He confirmed that the game is currently undergoing a significant overhaul. Freitas stressed that this massive change is not a “hit-or-kill moment” for the game, but rather a “very needed revamp.”

The primary reason for the extensive changes is that the current chapter system was not functioning as intended. The new edition, unofficially referred to as “neo mo.co,” is expected to deliver a better experience and establish a stable foundation for continuous improvement and further updates. The goal of this pivot is to improve player retention and address core issues identified within the game’s current structure.

Revenue is Not the Priority Right Now

Addressing player anxiety over the game’s estimated low revenue compared to other Supercell titles, Freitas was transparent about the team’s current focus. “At the moment, we have 99 priorities. Revenue ain’t one,” he stated.

Supercell’s strategy is a long-term one. They are deliberately keeping the player base small to collect feedback, analyze player behavior, and improve the game based on this data. They plan to scale the game only once they are confident in the revised model. Freitas noted that the low revenue is expected for the coming months as they have paused player acquisition efforts during the pivot. He added that Mo.co‘s cosmetics-only monetization model is already showing “very encouraging metrics.”

Independent Paths and Long-Term Commitment

Freitas also emphasized that the closure of Squad Busters has no bearing on Mo.co‘s development. He clarified that every Supercell game operates with its own independent team and follows its own unique development path. No one is demanding quick results from the Mo.co team. Supercell’s long-term investment philosophy means they are committed to building games that are played for many years, a strategy that is encouraging for players in Southeast Asia.

The new and improved version of the game, neo mo.co, is currently slated for release in the first quarter of 2026.

THIS IS our take:

In the high-stakes world of mobile gaming, Supercell’s transparency about Mo.co‘s necessary overhaul is a refreshing move. It is a sign of long-term commitment. Instead of letting a decent concept slowly fail, they are betting big on a “neo” version, prioritizing core gameplay and player retention over a quick cash grab. This strategy of listening to feedback and hitting the reset button is exactly why Supercell has produced “forever games,” and it gives us confidence that Mo.co will eventually find its global footing.
