Some PS5 Owners May Be Paying Higher Prices on PS Store

PS Store Pricing: Are Some PS5 Owners Paying More Than Others?

Recent observations have raised eyebrows among gamers after two separate cases indicated that the same PlayStation game was listed with different prices for different users. In one instance a user noted the game listed at $59.99 on their friend’s account but $44.99 on their own after logging in. In another case a game flagged at $19.99 under one account showed $14.99 under another, even though both accounts were reportedly in the same region.

These discrepancies suggest that Sony’s PlayStation Store may be experimenting with targeted or dynamic pricing where different users receive different offers based on account data. One common example is the “Exclusive Discount for You” tag which appears sporadically for some users but not others. In the two confirmed examples no region switches or subscription difference was clearly identified which adds to the speculation.

For gamers in Southeast Asia the implications are significant. With digital storefronts dominating and regional pricing inconsistencies already a concern, the idea that some users may pay more than others for identical items undermines trust in the marketplace. While targeted deals can benefit some players, they risk creating perceptions of unfairness if the criteria are unclear.

Currently Sony has not officially confirmed this pricing model, and the evidence remains anecdotal. However, if dynamic pricing becomes more widespread it could spark regulatory scrutiny in regions where digital pricing parity and consumer protection laws apply. Until then players are advised to monitor price fluctuations on their accounts and check whether unexpected “discounts” or “special offers” align with others in the same region.

THIS IS our take

Differential pricing on the PS Store would erode trust in what is supposed to be a universal marketplace. For players across Southeast Asia the idea that two users could pay different prices for the same game is frustrating and feels unfair. If Sony is indeed testing dynamic pricing it needs to be transparent about it or risk turning loyal customers into sceptics.
