Resident Evil 5 Taunts Hide Secret AI Gameplay Mechanic

Resident Evil 5 Taunt Moves Hide Secret Gameplay Mechanics
Hidden Mechanics in Resident Evil 5 Taunts
In Resident Evil 5, character Taunt animations are more than just stylish gestures. Originally seen in both the fifth and sixth entries of the series on PS3, these Taunts, like Chris Redfield’s “Come On” hand wave, are usable in both the main campaign and special modes such as The Mercenaries. Surprisingly, they also serve a strategic purpose.
How Taunts Affect Gameplay
Capcom has revealed that Taunts in Resident Evil 5 influence enemy AI. When players use a Taunt, nearby Majini enemies may react and move toward the player, allowing you to redirect enemy attention. This becomes especially useful when your co-op partner is in danger, as it helps protect them during solo play. The same mechanic also applies to Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, which shares core gameplay systems with RE5.
In comparison, Resident Evil 6 makes Taunts more functional in The Mercenaries mode by filling your Stamina gauge instantly. In RE5, the integration with enemy AI makes the mechanic feel more immersive, enhancing the co-op and survival experience. Players can experiment with different Taunts to see how enemies react, adding a subtle but valuable layer of strategy to encounters.
