Killing Magician: New Game from NIKKE Artist Features 31-Year-Old Magical Girl

Killing Magician: The NIKKE Character Designer’s New Story About a 31-Year-Old Magical Girl

Killing Magician is the latest indie project capturing the attention of story-driven gamers. Created by DDUCK KONG, the renowned character designer behind hits like Goddess of Victory: NIKKE (notably the fan-favorite Alice), this title is set to launch on Steam on December 30, 2025. The game offers a refreshing and grounded twist on the magical girl genre, focusing on a protagonist whose motivations are more “corporate” than “cosmic.”

About Killing Magician

This visual novel follows the life of Iris, a 31-year-old office worker with eight years of experience. Her mundane life takes a sharp turn when she meets a mysterious magical girl named Gregory. Unlike typical genre tropes where girls fight for love or justice, Iris decides to join the fray for a much simpler reason: money.

Lured by a massive recruitment fee of 100 million JPY (roughly $650,000), Iris trades her office attire for a magical uniform. However, she soon discovers that saving the world—specifically from a giant tuna—is a brutal and exhausting career path. The story delves into her internal changes and the dark truths of a world where innocence is a luxury.

Key Features

  • Dialogue-Driven Narrative: An immersive experience built on detailed storytelling and character interactions.
  • A Mature Linear Storyline: Follow Iris’s emotional journey and professional “career change” in a cohesive single-path narrative.
  • High-Quality Visuals: Featuring the signature high-detail CGs and character designs expected from a top-tier industry artist.
  • Diverse Cast: Meet three unique magical girls, a Demon King, and various animal sidekicks, all designed by DDUCK KONG.
  • Gallery and Sub-stories: Unlock extra short stories and special illustrations as you progress through the game.

Technical Details

The game supports Korean and Japanese audio and interface at launch. While it features mature themes including blood, violence, and disturbing situations, it is not categorized as an NSFW title. PC requirements are notably low, making it accessible even on older hardware with as little as 256 MB of RAM.

THIS IS our take

There is something hilariously relatable about a 31-year-old woman looking at the world-ending apocalypse and thinking, “If the pay is right, I’ll punch that giant fish.” DDUCK KONG is bringing that signature NIKKE polish to a story that feels like it was written for every millennial who has ever wanted to quit their 9-to-5 for literally anything else—even if that “anything else” involves fighting demons. It is a cynical, beautifully drawn, and oddly grounded take on a genre that is usually far too sparkly for its own good.
