Nemix Launches 2TB to 4TB DDR5 ECC Memory With Prices Higher Than Luxury Cars
As the global DRAM shortage shows no signs of easing, US-based memory manufacturer Nemix has sent shockwaves through the tech industry by listing ultra high-capacity DDR5 ECC memory kits on Amazon. The 2TB model is priced at 38,999 USD, roughly 1.3 million baht, while the flagship 4TB version reaches an astonishing 76,999.99 USD, or nearly 2.7 million baht.
From a technical standpoint, the 2TB configuration consists of four boxes of 2 x 256GB memory modules, totaling eight sticks. The massive 4TB variant doubles this setup to eight boxes. Both configurations are tuned to operate at 6400 MT/s with a CAS latency of 52, placing them among the most advanced commercially available DDR5 ECC solutions designed specifically for high-end enterprise workloads.
Nemix expresses strong confidence in its products, stating that all memory kits come with a lifetime warranty. However, online user feedback has been mixed, raising concerns that enterprise customers may need to carefully evaluate their purchase before committing to such a significant investment. Regardless of opinion, the price remains the most talked-about aspect, far exceeding most competing solutions in the market.
To put the cost into perspective, the price of the 2TB memory kit is enough to purchase a brand-new Ford Mustang, while the 4TB version could easily cover the cost of a Tesla Model S. Although registered ECC RDIMM server memory has always been more expensive than standard desktop RAM, the current pricing level has still surprised many within the IT industry.
The soaring cost is largely attributed to the specialized nature of ECC memory, which is engineered for maximum stability in mission-critical systems. ECC memory can detect and correct bit-level errors in real time, making it essential for servers that must operate continuously without interruption. Additional buffer chips also help reduce CPU load and allow support for significantly higher memory capacities, driving production costs even higher.
Nemix DDR5 ECC memory is a relatively new entry on Amazon, having appeared only about a month ago. Despite this, prices have already increased by more than 6,000 USD in a short period, reflecting the volatility of the memory market as AI-driven demand continues to rise. While alternative solutions such as clustering multiple Mac Studio systems to reach similar memory capacities exist, Nemix’s offering remains one of the most extreme examples of how far enterprise hardware pricing has escalated.
