Acemagic Unveils Retro X5 Mini PC at CES 2026, Challenging Steam Machine

Acemagic, the renowned mini PC manufacturer, has revealed the Retro X5 at CES 2026, targeting fans of 90s gaming nostalgia. Drawing inspiration from legendary consoles such as the SEGA Dreamcast, the Retro X5 offers a retro-inspired design complete with circular buttons and a simulated disk tray, appealing to collectors and retro gaming enthusiasts alike. A special version mimicking the NES aesthetic is also available, although it is not an official SEGA product.

Beneath its vintage exterior, the Retro X5 packs impressive high-end specifications. It is powered by the latest AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 (Gorgon Point architecture) or Ryzen AI 9 465 processors, paired with up to 64GB of RAM and 4TB SSD storage. This configuration is more than capable of handling modern 1080p gaming and demanding productivity tasks. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, ensuring compatibility with the latest peripherals.

One of the standout features is the integration of AI through the RetroPlay Box system, leveraging a high-performance 55 TOPS NPU. This enables enhancements such as real-time in-game language translation and improved graphics quality without relying on cloud processing, bringing a futuristic edge to classic gaming experiences.

However, some retro purists may find the placement of the Microsoft Co-pilot AI button positioned where the original Dreamcast power button once sat slightly out of sync with the nostalgic design. In practice, though, the button provides convenient access to AI functions for modern operating systems.

When compared with the upcoming Steam Machine, experts suggest that the Retro X5 may be the better option for users seeking a versatile PC that doubles as a high-performance mini console with a unique design. With DIY PC components facing price hikes due to AI chip demand, a fully equipped mini PC like the Retro X5 becomes a cost-effective solution in 2026.

Acemagic has yet to announce official pricing and release dates. Early estimates suggest a starting price of approximately $609 (around 20,705 THB), with higher configurations scaling up based on RAM and SSD options. For those seeking a compact gaming device that combines 90s nostalgia with cutting-edge technology, the Retro X5 is an unmissable project.
