Square Enix Confirms Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Part 3 on Switch 2 With Full Performance

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has officially launched on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox platforms, and early impressions suggest that the new red-themed console stands out despite not matching the raw specifications of other systems. Even so, it delivers impressive visuals and smooth gameplay, staying true to the legacy of the franchise that originally debuted on Nintendo hardware. Alongside this release, Square Enix has reaffirmed that the entire Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy will be available on Nintendo Switch 2.

With Remake Intergrade now available, attention naturally shifts to the next installment, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which serves as a major turning point in the trilogy before handing the narrative off to the currently in-development third part.

Director Confirms No Downgrades for Switch 2 Versions

In a recent interview published on Nintendo’s official website, Final Fantasy VII remake director Naoki Hamaguchi addressed concerns surrounding the technical feasibility of bringing Rebirth to Nintendo Switch 2. Many fans feared that the game’s demanding system requirements might exceed the console’s capabilities.

According to Hamaguchi, those concerns are unfounded. He confirmed that Square Enix is actively developing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for Nintendo Switch 2 in parallel with the third installment, and that these versions are being built specifically for the platform. They are not simple ports or downgraded editions, but fully optimized releases designed to deliver the same core experience as on other systems.

The goal, he explained, is to ensure that players do not feel pressured to choose one platform over another based on performance. Instead, each version is intended to be an equally valid option for gamers across different ecosystems.

No Platform-Specific Features Planned

Hamaguchi also clarified that Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive features such as touchscreen controls or mouse-based input will not be implemented. This mirrors the approach taken with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Switch 2.

The reasoning behind this decision is consistency. Square Enix wants every version of the game to deliver the same core gameplay experience without fragmentation. The primary differences between platforms will instead come from lifestyle factors, such as portable play and TV connectivity, rather than mechanical or feature-based changes.

About Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second entry in the ambitious remake trilogy and continues the story of Cloud Strife and his allies as they pursue Sephiroth, the legendary swordsman believed to be long dead. The game expands dramatically on the scope of the world, featuring larger environments, a more vibrant open world, and a wide variety of minigames.

The title is currently available on PlayStation 5 and PC, with versions for Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 planned for release at a later date.
