Upcoming farming simulation Honogurashi no Niwa, developed by Nippon Ichi Software, has officially confirmed a feature that will ease the worries of players who love cozy games but are not fond of ghosts.
Although the game is set in a world connected to spirits and the supernatural, the development team has revealed that players will be able to enable a special option called Safe Living Mode, allowing them to enjoy the game without encountering ghosts, yokai, or frightening supernatural events.
A Spirit World With a Peaceful Option
Honogurashi no Niwa blends classic farming simulation gameplay with a fantasy setting inspired by Japanese folklore. Some players expressed concern after seeing that spirits play a role in the story, wondering whether the game might feel unsettling rather than relaxing.
The newly showcased trailer confirms that Safe Living Mode removes ghost encounters entirely. With this mode enabled, players can focus purely on farming, mining, fishing, and daily village life without sudden scares or eerie events tied to the spirit world.
While the overall fantasy theme remains, the balance of the game adjusts to ensure smooth progression even without supernatural interactions.
Cozy Farming and Village Life at Its Core
At heart, Honogurashi no Niwa is a life simulation set in a warm and tranquil rural village. Players can grow crops, raise animals, fish in nearby waters, and build relationships with villagers at a relaxed pace.
Seasonal festivals help gradually unfold the village’s charming story, while an intuitive tool menu allows quick item switching for smooth and stress-free gameplay. The experience is designed to feel calm, inviting, and rewarding over long play sessions.
Life in Kagatsu Village
The game takes place in Kagatsu Village, a small countryside settlement surrounded by mountains and lush nature. The main character begins a new life by restoring an old cottage on the outskirts of the village, along with an overgrown garden.
As the story progresses, players may choose whether or not to engage with the mysterious spirit-related elements of the world. This flexibility makes Honogurashi no Niwa accessible to both fans of gentle fantasy and those who prefer purely peaceful farming simulations.
Platforms and Release Plans
Honogurashi no Niwa is currently listed on Steam and is planned for release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC in the future. A specific launch date has not yet been announced.
With the addition of Safe Living Mode, the game positions itself as a welcoming choice for anyone seeking a cozy farming experience without unwanted scares.
