Overwatch Rush launched early access in the Philippines on Android

Overwatch Rush soft launched in the Philippines
Overwatch Rush officially soft launched in the Philippines as part of its Early Access rollout. Blizzard Entertainment opened the test phase exclusively on Android devices, allowing selected players in the region to experience the mobile spin off ahead of a wider release.
The Philippines served as the first testing ground for the gameโs live environment. As a result, players there were able to access training features, unlock early cosmetic items, and provide performance feedback during the initial launch window.
4v4 top down PvP redesigned for mobile
Unlike the original console and PC version of Overwatch, Overwatch Rush adopted a top down perspective. This shift gave the game a more compact arena feel while preserving hero based combat.
Players controlled movement through a virtual joystick on the left side of the screen. Meanwhile, skills and attacks were positioned on the right for quick activation. Matches focused on short objective based modes such as point control. Consequently, most games concluded within just a few minutes, making the format well suited for mobile sessions.
Playable heroes during soft launch
At the time of the Philippine soft launch, players were able to choose from several iconic heroes:
- Tracer, who retained her blink mobility
- Soldier 76, offering balanced ranged damage
- Reaper, built for close range pressure
- Mercy, who supported allies with healing and hybrid tools
- Reinhardt, equipped with his signature barrier shield
Although abilities mirrored their mainline counterparts, the development team adjusted controls for smoother touchscreen performance.
Free to play structure and testing phase
Overwatch Rush launched under a free to play model with optional in game purchases. During the soft launch period, Blizzard focused on server stability, matchmaking balance, and device optimization.
Importantly, a separate team handled development for the mobile title, ensuring that the main Overwatch roadmap remained unaffected.
Minimum device requirements
At launch, the recommended specifications included:
iOS
- iPhone or iPad using A12 chipset or newer
Android
- Snapdragon 480, 675, 720G, 730, 765
- MediaTek Dimensity 6XXX, 7XX, 8XX

- At least 3GB RAM
What followed next
The Philippine soft launch allowed Blizzard to gather real world feedback before considering expansion into other regions. Therefore, players outside the Philippines continued to wait for confirmation of the next rollout phase.
The test marked an important step in adapting the Overwatch formula to mobile audiences.
