The Animal Crossing franchise is widely known, especially after New Horizons became the best-selling entry in the series. Yet even older titles retain their charm with real-time gameplay that encourages long-term engagement. City Folk, originally on Wii, has revealed a fascinating hidden feature that has caught fans’ attention.
Content That Lasts Decades
User Mayor Mori shared images from the City Folk game guide, highlighting that the game supports new content at least until 2035. This content comes in the form of yearly shirts distributed during the New Year, featuring zodiac designs with unique colors each year. For instance, in 2035, players will receive the green Year of the Rabbit shirt, following the grey version from the 2023 Year of the Rabbit. This means that, in theory, a dedicated player could unlock content for 26 years straight.
It’s important to note that this isn’t DLC content. All of these shirts are already embedded in the game disc. Official DLC support ended in 2012, so the shirts simply unlock when the in-game calendar reaches the appropriate date. Players can then collect their annual shirt from Mayor Tortimer, making the feature more of a built-in long-term reward than an add-on. Notably, City Folk’s in-game calendar extends until 2036, six years longer than the original Animal Crossing, leaving room for dedicated fans to continue playing.
