Resident Evil Requiem Preview – First Hands-On at Tokyo Game Show 2025

[Preview] Resident Evil Requiem – First Hands-On at Tokyo Game Show 2025
Resident Evil Requiem was one of the most anticipated games at Tokyo Game Show 2025, drawing massive crowds for media-only slots. This hands-on featured the PlayStation 5 version, with Switch 2 also available for observation.

The demo puts players in the shoes of FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, navigating a claustrophobic medical facility while being hunted by a giant, intelligent monster. Gameplay mixes First-person thrills, reminiscent of modern RE Engine titles, with limited inventory mechanics—a lighter approach emphasizing survival tension. Interactions with the environment, such as flicking a lighter or throwing objects, directly affect the monster’s behavior, creating dynamic, unscripted encounters akin to Mr. X in the RE remakes.

Switch 2 gameplay is smoother than 30FPS, though visuals are slightly downgraded for performance. Third-person perspectives are expected to offer a different experience.
About Resident Evil Requiem: The game continues the survival horror saga, following Grace Ashcroft, daughter of reporter Alyssa, as she investigates a mysterious murder and uncovers dark secrets from a forgotten city. Built on the advanced RE Engine, it delivers highly realistic characters, environments, and storytelling for next-gen consoles.
