Adobe Firefly Update Adds AI Video Editing and Expanded Model Support
Adobe has released a major update for its AI-powered video creation app, Firefly. The update introduces a new video editor that supports detailed Prompt-to-Edit functionality, allowing users to modify specific parts of a video via text commands. In addition, Firefly now supports third-party models for both image and video generation, making it a more comprehensive creative content studio.
Previously, Firefly could only generate new videos from text prompts. Any adjustments required generating a new clip entirely, which was time-consuming. The new editor allows users to adjust elements such as composition, color tone, or camera angles directly through text prompts. A timeline view enhances precision in managing frames and audio.
A highlight of the update is the integration of Runway’s Aleph model, which enables complex edits like changing the sky to overcast, lowering contrast, or zooming slowly on a subject without affecting other parts of the video. This workflow boosts efficiency and conserves resources compared to recreating entire clips.
Firefly’s own Video Model also gains the Camera Motion Reference feature. Users can upload still images along with example video footage to have AI replicate exact camera movements, ensuring consistent professional-quality output across a project.
Adobe is further expanding capabilities with third-party models such as Astra from Topaz Labs for upscaling videos to 1080p or 4K and FLUX.2 from Black Forest Labs for realistic image generation and precise text rendering. Adobe Express users will gain access to these features starting in January 2026.
To encourage adoption during the competitive AI market, Adobe is offering Firefly Pro, Premium, and credit-holding users unlimited access to image and video generation without using credits until January 15, 2026, allowing creators to fully explore the new tools before the new year.
